What have you said yes to? What are you unknowingly committed to?
Commitments are shaped by opportunity and our partnership with it.
Every commitment we make throughout our day are saying yes to something. It is either building, maintaining, or tearing down our lives.
The thoughts we give ourselves to, the tasks we do, what we say or don’t say, can all be evidence to prove why we are where we are today. And when we realize that there is actually no middle ground to the decisions we make on a daily basis, we gotta make up in our hearts to depend on Christ to walk as we ought.
Every opportunity that arises to live outside of our identity in Christ is also an opportunity to live in our inherited righteousness, grace, divine health, and faithfulness. It only requires our willingness, as Christ supplied everything we need to live a life of godliness.
Now this isn’t a blog to tell you to “Do Better”, or “Don’t do this or that”. Because if we are honest with ourselves, maybe we have tried. We’ve tried to be a better version of ourselves, but at some point got exhausted. We tried to “be positive”, but fell short, or didn’t see results and reverted to thinking negative. I want to encourage you, that if you have Jesus Christ in you, the One who carries abundant grace (the ‘grease’ for life), we simply yield to Him persistently and allow His power to be at work in us. Because He’s never short of what we need.
“My old self has been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me. So I live in this earthly body by trusting in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.” Galatians 2:20 NLT
“But those who trust in the LORD will find new strength. They will soar high on wings like eagles. They will run and not grow weary. They will walk and not faint.” Isaiah 40:31 NLT
This is where intimacy, or oneness in the Spirit is essential. When we abide in Christ, and seek His truth with everything in us, His life is sure to overflow through us. The more you listen to the Holy Spirit, the more you abide with Christ in prayer and in the Word, it will inherently make you free.
“But God be thanked that though you were slaves of sin, yet you obeyed from the heart that form of doctrine to which you were delivered.” Romans 6:17
“Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect.” Romans 12:2
When you embrace your identity and are transformed by His grace, you will reflexively stay committed to surrendering to His will- because this is a relationship of continual reliance.
