Jesus is the reason for the season!
I love the holiday season. The decorations, dinner parties, and family gatherings bring a warmth that fills my heart. But there’s also another side that can be a bit overwhelming; flights and long drives to see loved ones, wrapping and sending gifts, and don’t forget the pressure of work or school deadlines.
So when the break finally arrives, I’m often tempted to throw all structure out the window. Yet I’ve learned that if I’m not intentional, the focus I need to finish the year strong quickly fades, making room for passivity and distraction.
With that, here are a few practical tips on how to stay rooted in Christ this Holiday season:
- Not every invitation needs to be accepted, and not every gift has an actual price tag.
- Many times the gifts, shopping, and social gatherings can overshadow the true reason for the holiday break. Use discernment and let the verse “Let everything you do be unto the Lord” ring in your head. Let your yes’s be limited to what aligns with your values. On the other hand, your time, wisdom, and love can be the real gift someone needs this holiday. When your heart is set on glorifying and revealing Christ this season, then everything you do will flow from that desire, for “As a man thinketh, so is he” Proverbs 23:7 KJV
- Prioritize quiet places to seek God when traveling
- One of the biggest reasons why people don’t take time to pray during the holidays is because they don’t have a quiet place to pray! Another reason is that their routine is disrupted, resulting in people not setting aside time to seek God. It is not simply about maintaining a routine, but resting and abiding in your source, not circumstances.
- We don’t take holidays from being children of God! We need His guidance, intimacy and strength every single day, no matter if we’re by a beach, or with family + friends, or at home.

“But when you pray, go into your room and shut the door and pray to your Father who is in secret. And your Father who sees in secret will reward you.”
Matthew 6:6 ESV
“Pray without ceasing.” 1 Thessalonians 5:17 ESV
- Don’t hide your faith in conversation
- People always say that religion and politics are taboo topics to bring up this season, however the Word of God says otherwise. Be bold this Holiday and share your testimony in conversation. Testify of the transforming power of God when someone asks why you act so differently. Give God the glory when someone compliments you. You never know how your words can impact your friends and family around you.
“But we are certainly not those who are held back by fear and perish; we are among those who have faith and experience true life!” Hebrews 10:39 TPT “...And how are they to believe in him of whom they have never heard? And how are they to hear without someone preaching? And how are they to preach unless they are sent? As it is written, “How beautiful are the feet of those who preach the good news!”” Romans 10:14-15 ESV
Friends, let’s steward this precious time well!
May this holiday break be a season of reflection, rejuvenation, and restoration for you.
