part 3: why did God come to Earth?
Staring out into the street from inside a cafe, I notice a large group of teens hanging out. As I kept looking intently at them, my heart couldn’t rest without giving them the gospel. After asking God for boldness, I walked up to them, asked them their names, made some small talk and then asked
“So how many of you guys deal with depression?”

Yes, I admit, a very bold and apparently “taboo” statement to ask a group of strangers, but to my amazement, they were very open; and every single one of them said they had depression. I went onto ask if they struggled with anxiety or suicidal thoughts and again, every one of them said they were struggling with it.
I realized something. They were alive, but not living.
I shared with them that the only solution for their sadness, anxiety and pain was found in Jesus. After planting that seed in their hearts, I was grieved for them, yet grateful that God had sent a solution for their pain.
Jesus came for them, and for every single person just like them. Jesus was sent by God into this world to heal the broken hearted. But How? It is only through the exchange of our broken lives for His perfect Life!
Let me break this down: On earth, humans are the only beings that are tripartite, or with ‘three parts’: a body (what perceives senses like touch, sight, sound, etc), a soul (our inner thoughts, will, and emotions), and a spirit (what allows us to connect with divinity).
But there is a dilemma, everybody is born with a dead spirit. Not only does the Bible say it, our hearts know it .
“For I was born a sinner— yes, from the moment my mother conceived me.” Psalm 51:5 NLT
“In the past you were spiritually dead because of your disobedience and sins.” Ephesians 2:1
A dead spirit can only produce death. This became real for me when I exhausted all my efforts to get out of my problems. But here is the good news– Jesus came. He did not come to condemn us, but rather He came to take residence in our hearts, bringing life, hope and restoration to every person who’d believe.
His life revives the lifeless spirit, and only He has the power to do so.
“In Him was life [and the power to bestow life], and the life was the Light of men.” John 1:4
“…I came that they may have life and life in abundance.” John 10:10
“For this is how God loved the world: He gave his one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life.” John 3:16
That’s the Gospel! That’s the Good News! We have hope of life because God the source of life came to earth. We don’t have to struggle with what the world considers “normal”. Things like pain, anxiety, addiction, sadness, lack, and death is what Jesus came to redeem us from. Life came and He is right there with you now ready to give it to you. Simply believe!
Jesus said: “…He hath sent me to
heal the brokenhearted
to preach deliverance to the captives
recovering of sight to the blind
to set at liberty them that are bruised
To proclaim the acceptable year of the LORD.”
Luke 4:18-19 NKJV
