Serving God isn’t always popular
“Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it. But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it.
Matthew 7:13-14 NIV
Many people like to say they are living on the “straight and narrow”, when they are living a life that’s good in their own eyes. Biblically speaking, someone living the ‘narrow way’ is living a life for Jesus based on the written Word of God, being led by the Spirit.
There are so many paths to take, but only one path ensures us everlasting life:
Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life.
No one comes to the Father except through me.
John 14:6 NIV
When we have chosen a life with Christ, we should always be keen to His Holy Spirit to know the paths to take. There are so many decisions we have to make daily, that should involve prayer and seeking the Lord’s counsel.
There’s safety in doing the will of God, because God knows what is best for us, even when we cannot see it ourselves. We should put our trust in Him, whose ways are higher than our ways, and whose thoughts are higher than our thoughts.
The only way to realize the path to take, is by deep fellowship with Him. We should pray to know Him as the Sovereign God, to know His voice, and to be led by Him so we are not led astray.
The gatekeeper opens the gate for him, and the sheep recognize his voice and come to him. He calls his own sheep by name and leads them out. After he has gathered his own flock, he walks ahead of them, and they follow him because they know his voice. They won’t follow a stranger;
they will run from him because they don’t know his voice.”
John 10:3-5 NLT
Be careful of the voices you listen to, and do not succumb to the pressures of this world! Even when the majority of people seem to be going one way, always yearn to be on the path God wants you on. Be eager to know His voice among the other voices you hear throughout the day. God has set us apart, which means we cannot live in a way that is common to everyone.
You have been set apart as holy to the Lord your God, and he has chosen you from all the nations of the earth to be his own special treasure.
Deuteronomy 14:2
I truly believe God is seeking a people who yearn to be in His will. Who no longer want to live life on their own terms. A people who are set apart, understanding that even if I’m the only one, I’m never alone.
Father God. You are Sovereign. You reign above all and You know the end from the beginning.
Father, sometimes our own selfish desires get in the way of what You want to do in and through us.
Forgive us Father for going down paths that You never intended for us to take.
We know that You redirect, You restore, and set us apart.
Father, redirect our hearts to You, and order our steps to Your perfect and divine will.
Make us a people who yearn to be used by You.
