A preacher exhorted us to stop reading the word of God as just any book. To really analyze the text, and have a conversation with God. And If this means you must sit with a verse for a few weeks then so be it!
Sometimes we can just read the Word and highlight passively, but God is calling us to be active participants with the Word. This Word is alive and active. That means you can speak to the Word, and it can speak to you or your situation. You can speak the Word and it will have to do a work for you who believes. You can know more of the Word, and know more about The Living Word, Jesus Christ.
With this understanding I wanted to share a revelation the Holy Spirit blessed me with.
A few weeks ago I discussed the story of the Lame Man who was healed at the pool of Bethesda. That a man’s miracle was based on his obedience to the Word of God to “Get up, take up your bed, and walk.”
While reading this verse again, I asked the Lord: “God, there were so many people there; why did you call out this one specifically?” God in His love and wisdom opened my eyes. Notice how God deliberately said “take up your bed”. In my previous post on this story, I took this to mean that he needed to pick up his cross, old ways, and walk in the newness that God gave him.
However true this may be, there’s a deeper revelation to this story:
The Jews said to the man who had been healed, “It is the Sabbath, and it is not lawful for you to take up your bed.” But he answered them, “The man who healed me, that man said to me, ‘Take up your bed, and walk.’”
John 5:10-11
Why would Jesus tell this man to do something that He knew was unlawful?
Because Jesus came to fulfill the law.
Furthermore guys, this is what blew my mind when God showed me: This story was the reason the Jews sought to kill Christ. This story is the beginning of salvation by grace through faith. This is miraculous healing is what God used for His glory to be revealed in us.
This was why the Jews were seeking all the more to kill him, because not only was he breaking the Sabbath, but he was even calling God his own Father, making himself equal with God.
John 5:18 NLT
The man went away and told the Jews that it was Jesus who had healed him. And this was why the Jews were persecuting Jesus, because he was doing these things on the Sabbath.
John 5:15-16
God is not just interested in healing you. There is a bigger picture for every miracle, for every Word, for everything that God does. When Christ comes into your situation, no matter how long you have dealt with any issue in your life, He will turn it around for your good, and ultimately for His glory! Trust in the way He will move, and in the way He will tell you to move.
This is such a powerful revelation that literally came straight from the Holy Spirit. I implore you to revisit those stories and verses in the Bible that you may think are “elementary”, because there is nothing basic about the Bible. Go back to John 3:16, read again the story of David and Goliath. Go to the story of Noah. Ask God for a revelation of the Word! To refresh you, make it alive to you, that it would ultimately reveal the Lord’s character.
