And He remembered His covenant for their sake,
Psalm 106:45
And relented according to the greatness of His lovingkindness.
We serve a promise keeping God. A God who will remember us in our time of need. Who will look beyond our faults to see His Son inside of us, and show us mercy (lovingkindness). As we celebrate Jesus’ death, burial and resurrection, I believe it is so imperative that we take time to realize the new covenant that our God has b(r)ought us into, by His Goodness and Mercy!
old things have passed…
The Old Covenant required for the priest at the time to offer gifts and sacrifices required by the law every day as a payment of the sins they committed. The great thing about the new covenant, however is that because Jesus died and became the Ultimate Sacrifice, He did so for all of our confessed and unconfessed sins. Every single sin, past, present, and future were nailed to the cross! He died for it ALL. Just so we can be made new. So we can walk, no longer in sin that will lead to death, but in life.
The new covenant according to Hebrews 8:6 also has better promises. Not only are we washed clean by the Blood of Jesus, He is now able to reside in us so that we can commune with God one on one, and not through a priest. The new covenant also promised us eternal life; with the One who took our place.
God doesn’t pinky swear…
God will never break this covenant. When God says something, it is as good as done. No matter what you have done, the blood is for you. No matter what you would do, the blood of Jesus will work for you. All He asks is that we give Him our everything, as God has freely given to us His Son.
God’s promises are yes and amen. He is the same yesterday, today, and forever. God has always kept His covenant:
“This is what the Lord says: If you can break my covenant with the day and the night so that one does not follow the other, only then will my covenant with my servant David be broken. Only then will he no longer have a descendant to reign on his throne. The same is true for my covenant with the Levitical priests who minister before me.
Jeremiah 3:20-22 NLT
Nobody can break God’s covenant with the day and night, meaning that nobody can stop the days from happening. So this means that the Lord’s covenantal promises are sure to come to pass.
so much more…
There is so much more to the New Covenant that I’m still learning. I feel like I’m just scratching the surface to this mysterious, yet wonderful promise, so I will end with this:
I was at a conference and the pastor told everyone to raise their hands if they knew the benefits of the new covenant. Very few people rose their hands in the midsts of hundreds. The speaker told us “it is like having a million dollars in the bank, and not knowing it’s there.”
The kingdom of heaven is like treasure hidden in a field.
When a man found it, he hid it again, and then in his joy went and sold all he had and bought that field.
Matthew 13:44 NIV
Go and find out about the Kingdom of Heaven, leave all that you know and walk into your Inheritance.
