What do you do when your day-to-day life doesn’t look like what you know you are called to? What is your posture when life starts to get mundane, but you’re called to be faithful over the little things?

keep showing up.

It’s sooo easy to say this, but sometimes that encouragement is just what you need. What if the day you decide to give up on God is the very day of your breakthrough?

There’s a story in the Bible about the wall of Jericho found in Joshua 6:1-27. What caught my attention in this story is that God first told Joshua that Jericho was already theirs, but Joshua still had to do something to get it.

Now the gates of Jericho were tightly shut because the people were afraid of the Israelites. No one was allowed to go out or in.

But the Lord said to Joshua, “I have given you Jericho, its king, and all its strong warriors...

Joshua 6:1-2 NLT

Now, if I was Joshua after hearing “I have given you Jericho” my ears would have shut off. I would have fell to the ground, praised God and waited for the keys to the city to drop from Heaven!!!

However, there was a specific instruction thereafter that took extreme faith in what seemed tedious.

You and your fighting men should march around the town once a day for six days. Seven priests will walk ahead of the Ark, each carrying a ram’s horn. On the seventh day you are to march around the town seven times, with the priests blowing the horns. When you hear the priests give one long blast on the rams’ horns, have all the people shout as loud as they can. Then the walls of the town will collapse, and the people can charge straight into the town.

Joshua 6:3-5 NIV

What are you going to do when it’s day six and not a single brick has fallen? Are you waking up again and marching towards your victory?

In other words: how bad do you want a thing that is already yours? How big is your faith to keep showing up to what seems like nothing is happening? How willing are you to march around that job for the third 12 hour shift in a row? What is your posture when what you know is yours requires some more work on your part?

Consider this: When your doctor tells you to take an antibiotic for 7 days would you stop on day 6 because you don’t see your healing? No! If you have faith in the medicine, what more can the God who made everything do for you if you listen to His instructions.

Just. Show. Up.

I believe Joshua had so much faith and heeding God’s word because at the beginning of the Book of Joshua, God told him the following:

Be strong and very courageous. Be careful to obey all the instructions Moses gave you. Do not deviate from them, turning either to the right or to the left. Then you will be successful in everything you do. Study this Book of Instruction continually. Meditate on it day and night so you will be sure to obey everything written in it. Only then will you prosper and succeed in all you do. This is my command—be strong and courageous! Do not be afraid or discouraged. For the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.”

Joshua 1:7-9 NLT

God has already delivered your ‘Jericho’ into your hands.

Ask Him to remind you of the Instructions to be able to walk straight into it.

Pray this with me:
Lord, I thank You for all that You have already done for me. For the Promises that are already established. For all the good You have in store for me in the future. Lord, forgive me for not always obeying your instructions. Help me to hear You and to do what You tell me to do. Your word says in Psalm 1:1-3 that if I meditate on Your word day and night, I will prosper in all I do. Help me to meditate on the written Word and your voice as the instructions that will help me succeed. I thank You for hearing me and for answering my prayer. In Jesus name, Amen.
